BLOOM: BIRTH WORK MENTORSHIP

facilitated by Anna Cheechov

Join me for an immersion into the deeper layers of birth work.

Build community. Build your biz. BLOOM.

The journey as a birth worker can be exhilarating, and equally overwhelming. Not only are you practicing energy work (because at the root of it, that’s what we do), but you are also building a BIZ! You get to choose which parts of the journey you feel most called to support.

Birth workers directly support a range of experiences:

  • TTC (trying to conceive) / Fertility Support

  • Abortion Doula

  • Pregnancy + Birth Doula

  • Postpartum Doula

  • Lactation - CLC/CBC + IBCLC

  • Childbirth Educator

  • Placenta Medicine

  • Midwifery - homebirth + birthing center + hospital births

  • Birth Assistant at homebirths + birthing centers

  • Nursing

  • OBGYN

  • Therapists specializing in Maternal Mental Health

  • Advocacy work locally and beyond!

There are so many facets of Maternal Health that need fierce love and attention these days, obviously. Whatever your flavor, you get to channel your authenticity, and guide your vision toward reality. Sometimes these jobs are based upon an employee/employer relationship, but typically you are your own boss, and you run your own biz, working 1:1 with your clients. With some, you can accept insurance. You get to choose how you want to do this, who you want to serve, and on what terms. Because let’s be honest, we are not doing this work if we are not called to it deeply and spiritually. It’s quite dynamic, and not for the faint of heart, but incredibly rewarding and soul-enriching. I often feel like birth work is God’s work.

I know how important it is to have a community behind you, cheering you on, acting as a sounding board, and to have mentors guiding you along your journey. Since beginning doula work nearly 10 years ago in NYC as a new mama, with a 4-month-old little miss Nola on my breast constantly, I’ve had the pleasure of working with several mentors, aka seasoned doulas, via the NYC Doula Collective and many other incredible members of the greater NYC birthing community. I’ve attended over 300 births, and have worked with hundreds of other families in different capacities. I've mentored many doulas along their journey, and love this facet of my work. I’m still a part of the Collective, and currently sit on the Board, Mentorship Committee, and manage the funds for the company. It’s also been an incredible source of referrals for me since day 1. So, I know first hand how heavily we birth workers benefit from circles of support. I’m here to hold space for us to learn and grow together in a safe, supportive virtual container. I’m so excited for it and our evolution!!

Who is this Mentorship for?

This is for birthworkers looking to find their footing + identity in their practice or who are hoping to deepen + expand their connection to their calling, locally or globally. This is for those seeking to enjoy time in community with other birthworkers, to receive new ideas about how to work with the energetics of birth work + the biz side of things, simultaneously. There is no requirement of certification to join the mentorship, although it’s strongly suggested that you have taken a training in your field of interest, or plan to in the near future. Also amazing if you are working as a birth worker now, or seriously want to dive in, in the near future.

Commitments from you include a desire to:

  • expand your calling into a legit business by learning organizational skills and streamlining your workflow.

  • learn from others + create community, leading with the intention to understand each other + hold space for uniqueness + support each other’s growth.

  • explore ways to nurture yourself through this process, to make this crazy-hard-beautiful work SUSTAINABLE and JOYFUL!

Additional Offerings INCLUDED for all Members:

  • Private 1:1 Zoom session (1 hour) with Anna at the start of your mentorship in order to individualize guidance. I hope to meet with you ASAP so I can get to know you, your visions, and your goals.

  • Templates, worksheets, guides and resources to help you set up and operate your birth work biz.

  • A group What’s App chat available for all of us to communicate, anytime! I’ll provide feedback as often as possible in the group!

Private 1:1 Mentorship:

  • Get me at your fingertips! Private Chat with me anytime and I’ll respond within 24 hours, if not sooner! I find voice memos to be helpful, or text. VOXER is a cool app that we can use to communicate!

  • I am your doula for your biz. Happy to coach you in whatever stage you are in, from just beginning your journey to enriching what you have already built.

  • Birth Doula coaching, bc that’s my birth work niche. If you’re having questions about a client, or want to reach out while at a birth for support, hit me up and I’ll respond ASAP as I understand how important that real-time support can be, especially when learning, or tired, or frustrated, or flying high on oxytocin from an incredible birth experience.

  • Access to the BLOOM Membership — monthly Zooms + Group Chat via What’s App Community

Let’s talk about ALL OF IT! I can help you with:

  • Creating and logistically setting up your business operations. THIS IS HUGE, and I love to help with this.

  • Self-care routines to prevent burn-out and support longevity and joy in this wild work.

  • Conducting interviews, prenatal sessions, and postpartum sessions with clients.

  • Attending births virtually.

  • Attending births in-person.

  • Comfort measures and techniques to get families to the other side of birth.

  • Holding space + energy work with families during your time with them.

  • The power of advocacy and how to implement it in real time.

  • Awareness of inequities, namely racial and gender disparities and implicit bias in medical settings, and the world we live in.

  • Lactation + Postpartum Support — Lending ears, eyes, hands and hearts to new families as they transition to parenthood, and helping them understand their options for support and infant feeding. Also feeding themselves, which proves to be tough for new parents. Prenatally, helping them come up with a postpartum plan.

  • Navigating the NYC birth world, or your local birth community during the current times of uncertainty and rapid change.

  • We’ll talk about money! How to manage it, especially if you’re self-employed. Getting the right support around accounting + bookkeeping + filing taxes.

KIND WORDS from DOULAS I’ve helped…

I highly recommend Anna's birth doula mentorship. Our sessions together helped me, as a brand new doula, gain the confidence to start working with clients. Having attended over 300 births, Anna is a master of her craft. I always looked forward to our monthly sessions which were a perfect combination of inspiring lectures and thoughtful discussion. She generously shared her hefty knowledge and nuanced perspective of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Anna gave us unlimited access to the beautiful resource pages she shares with clients throughout their pregnancy. Even after our mentorship sessions ended, she continued to send her thoughtful responses to my many questions. Being able to boast to potential clients that I have a mentor with so much experience, certainly helped me get my first couple clients! Starting out as a birth doula was intimidating for me, but Anna helped me feel capable and strong. I am very lucky to have connected to her at the beginning of my doula career; it has been game changing. It's empowering to have Anna in your corner. Her expertise, mixed with her creative and generous spirit, makes her a real gift to the birthing world. - H.H.
